The capital of the “Italian Food Valley”, Parma is a Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy and has one of the highest number of “protected” products in Italy, including Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. The cathedral and baptistry are considered to be two of Italy’s finest examples of Romanesque art and, of course, the city is synonymous with opera and in particular the works of its most famous son, Giuseppe Verdi.
